How to Spot a Loan Scam
Fraudsters frequently impersonate legitimate credit providers. Learn the warning signs so you never lose money to a scam.
Red Flags — Walk Away
- Anyone asking you to pay an upfront fee to 'release' or 'process' your loan. We never do this.
- Loan offers arriving via unsolicited WhatsApp groups, Facebook DMs, or SMS from unknown numbers.
- Promises of guaranteed approval with no credit check or affordability assessment. This is illegal under the NCA.
- Email addresses that are not @4rona.co.za, or bank details that differ from those on your signed agreement.
- Pressure to make an immediate decision or to transfer money to a personal bank account.
- Requests for your online banking PIN, password, or OTP. We will never ask for these.

POPIA Privacy Statement
1. Information We Collect
We collect personal information necessary to assess your credit application and to comply with our legal obligations. This includes your full name, identity number, contact details, physical address, employment details, income and expenditure information, and banking details.
2. Why We Collect It
Your information is used to verify your identity, conduct the affordability assessment and credit bureau enquiry required by the National Credit Act, administer your loan account, and communicate with you about your application or agreement.
3. Who We Share It With
We share information only where necessary and lawful: with registered credit bureaus, with the National Credit Regulator where required, and with service providers who assist us in operating our business under strict confidentiality obligations. We never sell your personal information.
4. How We Protect It
We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, including SSL encryption in transit, restricted internal access on a need-to-know basis, and secure storage of documentation.
5. Your Rights
Under POPIA you have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request correction or deletion of inaccurate information, to object to processing in certain circumstances, and to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
6. How Long We Keep It
We retain records for the periods prescribed by the National Credit Act and other applicable legislation, after which information is securely destroyed.
